February TRA Zoom Meeting

February 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

We are holding our next TRA Zoom meeting on the 16th February at 7:00pm.

We will invite resident services, and ward counsellors to answer your queries.

Meeting ID: 821 2763 6871
Passcode: 159800

19:00 – Welcome, Guests,  & Attendance Register

19:05 – Great Estates – David Suen

An update on the progress of the Great Estates project from David Suen.

19:20 – Community Southwark – Alicia Lyons

Alicia Lyons from Community Southwark would like to introduce some initiatives based around young people on the Brandon, and how Community Southwark & our TRA Committee might work together in 2022.

19:30 – BESN & Energy Saving Tips – Andrea Bedward

Andrea Bedward works with Citizens Advice Southwark (CAS), as an Energy Champion. Andrea is arranging Zoom sessions & face to face Energy (gas & electricity) sessions for Citizens Advice Southwark in conjunction with the Big Energy Saving Network (BESN). Andrea will tell us more about this initiative.

19:50 – District Heating

We are still awaiting the minutes of the heating meeting on Tuesday 30th November. A number of upgrades (anti-vibration mounts, isolation bellows, etc.) are currently being retrofitted to the existing plant rooms to address the noise issues.

Further analysis was done on the pipework in Bateman & Cruden houses, and this was also found to be in excellent condition. Sylvester Hilton has proposed visual inspections of the remaining three blocks.

It has been agreed to get an independent review of the works undertaken in 2019, which introduced the current issues we are having with noise & heating outages, and we will have an input into the terms of reference of this review.

19:55 – Afro / Caribbean Evening

We have been granted the TENS licence for our event. Posters have been put up across the estate advertising the event. Please spread the word, and invite as many residents as you can. Following the success of Latino night, lets see if we can make this event even better!

Ola has booked the entertainment for the evening, which will be a performance by Aya Motion (An African art and entertainment group with a current focus on Dance and Music). We will also have a DJ.

Food & drinks will be provided. This is a ticketed event, so residents will need to RSVP for tickets using the link below, to allow us to budget for catering:

Afro Caribbean Night

20:05 – Vacant Shop Unit on Maddock Way

There has been no progress on this issue & the unit is still void. A deadline of the 4th February was missed by the proposed clients solicitors. This has now been extended to the 28th February. We have asked that if this second deadline is missed that the deal be cancelled and that the shop unit be properly advertised and placed back on the open market. Eleanor Kerslake has expressed her support for this.

20:10 – Update on Jack Hobbs Club

Ongoing mediation sessions with the hall manager, facilitated by Dave Walker seem to have stalled, and we have written to our ward counsellors & the chief executives office to outline our concerns on a number of issues. Eleanor Kerslake has committed to sending us a written response by the end of this month.

We are unaware of any scheduled activities being run or planned for 2022, other than the Thursday coffee mornings & Taekwondo, currently being run by Fight 4 Change.

The shutters are down on the building 6 days out of 7, and the building needs to be brought back into community use.

20:30 – Resident Services – Nat Stevens

Reps from resident services are here to answer your questions.

  • In the absence of any cleaning contact being set up for the JHC, we propose to purchase a vacuum cleaner, so that we can keep the TRA allocated spaces clean & tidy.
