Breakdancing Classes

June 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Breaking programme delivered at the Jack Hobbs Club on the Brandon Estate is a council-funded initiative providing free or low-cost access to high-quality dance provision for children and young people living in council housing. The core programme has directly engaged around 30 children and young people from the Brandon Estate through regular weekly sessions, with well over 100 children accessing dance activity at Jack Hobbs Club over time. Sessions are led by experienced, DBS-checked coaches and delivered in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment, removing financial, social and confidence-related barriers to participation while promoting consistent engagement, physical literacy and creative self-expression.

The impact of the programme extends significantly beyond the weekly sessions. Over the past year alone, participants from the Jack Hobbs Breaking class have been actively included in large-scale collaboration events, showcases and competitions, delivered across London by our wider coaching network. These events bring together students from multiple estates, boroughs and dance communities, meaning the funded provision has contributed to engaging hundreds of children and young people in positive, structured cultural activity. By inviting the Jack Hobbs group into these wider opportunities, the programme ensures participants are not isolated to a single space but are meaningfully connected to a broader creative and social network.

Through performance opportunities, shared training environments and exposure to experienced dancers and coaches, participants build confidence, resilience, teamwork and aspiration. Strong safeguarding practices and clear progression pathways underpin all activity, supporting not only short-term engagement but long-term involvement in dance, physical activity and the arts. Overall, the Breaking programme at Jack Hobbs Club demonstrates how targeted, place-based council funding can create deep local impact while also unlocking wider participation, community cohesion and sustained positive outcomes for young people across London.
