We hosted the first market of 2023 in Maddock Way on Easter Sunday. It was a roaring success, with market stalls and a range of family activities for children.
Attractions included:
Latin Jazz Quartet
Easter Egg Hunt
Giant Bouncy Castle
Children’s Entertainer & Magician
Face Painting
Floral Crown Workshop
Raffle & Prizes
The event was blessed with sunny weather and we got a great turnout of residents & children. The market was popular and had a variety of traders including, hand-made cards, custom badges, two food stalls, a flower & plant stall. a local beekeeper selling organic Camberwell honey, some antiques & bric-a-brac, delicious cakes & baked goods, and handmade candles & soaps.
Along the side of the library, we created a kids zone, complete with bouncy castle, face painter, magician, floral crown workshop, and an Easter egg-hunt that was so popular that it needed to be restocked 16 times! There was also an Easter treasure trail for the older children, who had to go about the Brandon searching for clues to riddles.
All in all a great family day, and having the market stalls in Maddock Way really breathed some life into the space & encouraged people to stay and relax these for the whole afternoon. We set out some communal seating & tables for people to relax and enjoy the Latin-jazz quartet who played four sets and created a lovely ambience at the event.
This event was made possible by all of the community pulling together, and planning a great day out. A big thanks to Siobhan, Farrah, & Genita who manned the egg hunt stall, Giovanni & Babs who worked tirelessly doing the flower crowns, Paula & Margaret who ran the flower & honey stalls, Ola, Mandy & the Lambeth Young Advisors who helped set up & clear up afterwards, Verity for electricity, Colin & the band for some great tunes, and the LB Southwark street markets team, & the High Street Recovery Fund for assisting us in making this such a success.
Watch out for the next planned event, on the Sunday of the Coronation weekend. If you know any traders who would like to reserve a gazebo & trade that weekend, hete is the registration link below:
